Aliaune Badara Akon Thiam (Dakar, April 16, 1973), better known by his stage name Akon, is an American - Senegalese artist. Shortened his name is Aliaune Thiam. He is also a producer and songwriter. He is founder of Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution. His second album, Konvicted, received a Grammy Award nomination for the single Smack That.

Akon grew up in Senegal before he and his family moved to St. Louis. His father, jazz percussionist Mor Thiam. Akon discovered here hiphop and came into contact with the crime. He spent some time in jail, where he developed his musical ideas. After his release, he began to write and record in his home studio. His stage name Akon, is also "AKONvicted" which means a convict. The recorded tapes were obtained from SRC / Universal, and eventually Akons debut album, Trouble was released in June 2004. Another megahit's Keep On Calling.

Akon Netherlands scores one hit after another. In the Ghetto Remix song he sang along with the Dutch rapper Ali B, Yes-R. Even though it was not a hit in America, it was there one in the Netherlands. They talk about the ghetto and how many children will grow up and not know any better than survival of theft.
In 2008 Akon working together with other artists (including 50 Cent) to the album Thriller 25, on the occasion of the twenty-five-year anniversary of the original album Thriller by Michael Jackson in 1982. Akon is on the album can be heard in the song Wanna Be Startin 'Somethin' 2008.
In 2010, Akon along with the new album, Euphoria, Enrique Iglesias. Together they can be heard on the song One Day at a Time.
